WORKSHOP

(Re)configurations: Everywhere, Elsewhere, Anywhere, Somewhere

invitation to the population of Trafaria to draw up an affective map of itinerant memories and ephemeral interventions

16 to 19 NOV. 2021 / 10:00–15:00 CENTRO SOCIAL DA TRAFARIA

Humans develop emotional responses to others and to more than humans, in and around them, in a given physical space, projecting affectivities in relation to a territory they recognize to belong. However, senses of belonging and affectivity do not always correspond to the maps that regulate the legal easements or territorial administrations of a given country, region, municipality, city or neighborhood. At Trafaria, the human experience with the geographical environment configured a certain toponymy, expressed in names such as Monte de Areia, Torre, Torrão, Torralta, Madame Faber, and possibly a togetherness pattern shaped by the memory deposits of the inhabitants who settled there.

Following this intuition, the possibility of the borders or limits of each neighborhood maybe (re)configured. Based on the questioning of images of border delimitation missions on the African continent, which the Photo Impulse Project is concerned with, this workshop seeks to build an affective cartography of Trafaria, with the Trafaria community – from the memories of its inhabitants, their histories and experiences, and which may not necessarily coincide with the administrative boundaries of the territory. The re(com)figuration of a Trafarian affective territory will be created by the deposition of the testimonies of its inhabitants (map) and the realization of ephemeral physical landmarks (sculptures) related to the aforementioned mapping, which can travel to the various defined sites for feeling the spotted areas, a walking that works in a performative and itinerant way.

Possible Results: a map/cartography/atlas of affectivities/final silkscreen print. Meshes, signs, structures, removable geodetic landmarks, made by sand formwork on the beach.
